Building and Uniting Watershed Communities

2010 Watershed Symposium : Connecting Communities
September 7-9th, Helena, MT

The Watershed Symposium is a large scale, three day event held every few years. The event provides a focused setting to gain new ideas and new partners in conservation with diverse participants from across the state and our neighbors in the west. It is without a doubt the most enjoyable, professional venue in the state.

The 2010 Symposium: Connecting Communities drew 175 participants from the public and private sector. Ann Schwend, MWCC Co Chair and Jeff Tiberi, MACD Executive Director opened the conference. Nationally recognized keynote speakers were secured for the venue including IBM and Montana’s own Bill Yellowtail and John Tubbs. Thirty seven other speakers provided valuable information during both plenary and panel presentations.

Participants interacted with local, state and national conservation leaders, learned new tools, skills and up-to-date information on a breadth of important topics including property values land use planning, water rights, water law and water quality, habitat research, invaders, and collaboration among others. Of critical importance was the opportunity to hear about funding sources and new partners and to have time to communicate and network with diverse professionals.

This project helps increase the visibility of MWCC and our ability to disseminate information to the public and agency partners and highlight programs that benefit landowners and landscapes across the state. Participants are honored for their service to conservation and challenged to continue their engagement in making a positive impact on the landscape in their communities.
