Watershed Wednesday

A New Education-Based Initiative for State Policy Makers

In 2009, the Montana Association of Conservation Districts invited MWCC members to join conservation districts in providing educational information to state legislators. Folks shared on the ground conservation work being accomplished across the state during this one day event.

Building on this important concept, MWCC proudly presented Watershed Wednesday at the Capitol Rotunda in 2011. More than a dozen watershed groups and partners descended on the Capitol Wednesday, February 16th with information and displays in hand to share with local policy makers as they passed through the Rotunda. Free lunch served to over 130 individuals provided additional opportunity for legislators to meet with their constituents and learn about local challenges and successes in watershed work and conservation.

Our first Watershed Wednesday was a success. It highlighted the important role that watershed groups play in Montana and helped promote group activities and projects that are taking place under local volunteer leadership. Through these events, legislators can clearly see the impact of the watershed approach. Local communities are taking charge and are making a positive contribution to natural resources and human communities at a landscape scale.

Local Solutions for Local Issues: A powerful concept

Join MWCC and partners in sharing new information at Montana’s State Capitol during the next legislative session for Watershed Wednesday 2013!
